Bonfim
150 x 100 cm, year 2026, Acrylic on canvas
Bonfim draws inspiration from one of Brazil’s most beloved symbols of faith, hope, and good fortune: the Fita do Bonfim, the famous ribbon from Salvador, Bahia. Traditionally tied around the wrist with three knots, the ribbon carries three secret wishes—one for each knot.
According to tradition, the wishes remain protected as long as the ribbon stays tied. When it naturally wears out and finally breaks, the wishes are released and may come true. This simple ritual transforms a colorful piece of fabric into a powerful symbol of hope, belief, and the possibility of a better future.
In this vibrant abstract painting, color, movement, and layered forms echo the energy of Bahia and the joyful spirit surrounding the Bonfim tradition. Bonfim celebrates the idea that sometimes we must simply believe, make our wishes, and allow time to do its work.
