Tranformation 167
70x70, 2026, Acrylic on canvas
TRANSFORMATION 167 is part of my ongoing Transformation series, in which I give new life to older paintings through a process of covering, scraping, layering, and revealing. Rather than completely erasing what existed before, I allow fragments of the original painting to remain embedded within the new surface, creating a dialogue between its past and present.
This work is dominated by a cool palette of turquoise, blue, teal, and muted green, creating an atmosphere that feels both tranquil and mysterious. Beneath the layers, delicate traces of lighter and warmer colors occasionally emerge, suggesting something hidden just below the surface. The intensely textured finish gives the painting an almost weathered, organic character, while fine diagonal lines introduce subtle structure and movement.
The surface becomes an important part of the image itself. Scraped passages, accumulated layers, and partially concealed marks create the feeling of something slowly being uncovered. What initially appears quiet and monochromatic reveals increasing complexity the longer it is observed.
For me, TRANSFORMATION 167 reflects the idea that change does not erase the past—it transforms it. Every layer carries evidence of what came before, becoming part of something new, unexpected, and alive.
