Transformation 168
70x70, 2026, Acrylic on canvas
TRANSFORMATION 168 is part of my ongoing Transformation series, in which I give new life to older paintings through a process of covering, scraping, layering, and revealing. Instead of completely removing what was there before, I allow fragments, textures, and unexpected traces of the original work to survive and become part of a new visual identity.
This painting is immersed in an intense palette of cobalt blue, turquoise, deep teal, icy white, and flashes of vivid green. The surface is highly textured and layered, creating an almost tactile, weathered appearance. Broad areas of blue are interrupted by intricate marks, scratches, and fragments that seem to emerge from beneath the surface.
The composition has a strong sense of movement. Intersecting diagonal lines and irregular forms create the impression of a landscape in transformation—perhaps ice, water, rock, or vegetation—without settling into a recognizable representation. Small flashes of green and red add unexpected energy to the predominantly cool palette.
The dense surface encourages the viewer to look closely and discover new details within the layers. What initially appears as a single blue field gradually reveals traces of another painting beneath it.
For me, TRANSFORMATION 168 is about the beauty of renewal and the unexpected possibilities hidden within what already exists. The past is not erased; it becomes the foundation for something entirely new.
