Transformation 169
70x70, 2026, Acrylic on canvas
TRANSFORMATION 169 is part of my ongoing Transformation series, in which I give new life to older paintings by covering, scraping, layering, and reworking their surfaces. Rather than destroying the original image, I allow fragments of its previous existence to remain visible, creating a dialogue between what was and what it has become.
This work is immersed in a cool palette of silver, icy blue, pale grey, turquoise, and deep charcoal, with occasional flashes of red, green, and yellow appearing beneath the dominant layers. Its intensely worked surface creates a rich, almost geological texture, suggesting ice, stone, water, or a landscape viewed through changing layers of atmosphere.
Large pale forms seem to emerge from the dense surface, while darker passages create depth and contrast. The scattered traces of warmer colors are particularly important: they appear like fragments of another world breaking through the cool exterior, reminders of the painting's previous life.
The composition remains deliberately ambiguous, allowing the viewer to discover different forms and associations within the layers. The longer one looks, the more hidden details begin to reveal themselves.
For me, TRANSFORMATION 169 is about renewal through accumulation. Every mark, layer, and fragment becomes part of the work's history, demonstrating that transformation is not about erasing the past, but about allowing it to evolve into something unexpected and new.
